Cloth Diapering is a Bad Thing?
Robbi Drake

Cloth Diapering is a Bad Thing?

So, get ready.  I’m going to talk about something that a lot of people in the diapering community hate, and that is the subject of disposable diapers.  Don’t hate me.

Now, be honest.  Everyone in this community knows they’ve used disposable diapers at one time or another.  But thing again, if you’ve never used them, then you are truly a super parent.

So, what does this say about everyone else?  You know.  What about parents that are too busy to launder cloth diapers, but have run out them.  This happens due to busy schedules, stress or just being lazy.  Thus, most parents have probably used disposable diapers.

Unfortunately, after you do it too many times, it’s hard to use cloth diapers again.  Well, this is what happens to me anyway.  So, let’s talk about a few ways to get back into using cloth diapers.

Don’t buy disposable diapers.  Stop buying them and you won’t use them.  This is easy to say, but can you really do it?  Yes, I have a case of disposable diapers that I use for emergencies.  (Besides, I like to use them during church too) But if I get really serious about not using disposable diapers any longer, I must stop buying disposable diapers.

Commit to a cloth diaper washing schedule.  Usually not having enough clean cloth diapers is a top reason that I use disposable diapers.  But I like schedules, and I can commit to a cloth diaper washing schedule.  If you want to remain a loyal cloth diaper user, you must make sure that you keep plenty of clean ones at your disposal.  (See how I just did that?)  So, create a schedule and stick with the plan to remain a loyal cloth diaper user.

Stay motivated.  Yes, it can be a challenge to use cloth diapers 100% of the time, but you can do it.    Take strength from others who are doing the same thing.  There are thousands of testimonials and stories of others who are using cloth diapers too.

If you need extra motivation, then write yourself a few love notes and stick them on the mirror.  Talk about how cloth diapers are the way to go and how you are committed to using them.  Now, your spouse might think that you’re a little loopy, but remember your goal.

Also, consider this as well.  Maybe, you’re being too hard on yourself.  Stop it!  After all, you aren’t a felon criminal when you use a disposable diaper every now and then.  Remember that you are not alone.  Besides, if you keep thinking that you’re a bad person for using disposable diapers, this will cause problems for you in the long run.
